The z Exchange Presents: Driving Real Time Intelligence with AI on IBM Z and LinuxONE with Steve Warren

Join Steve Warren as he explores the evolving AI on IBM Z ecosystem and how organizations can leverage modern AI frameworks, tools, and software to unlock new business value. Discover how the Telum II processor delivers real time, in transaction insights that were previously unattainable, and how the new IBM Spyre™ Accelerator brings powerful generative AI capabilities directly to the IBM z17 platform. We will examine emerging architectural paradigms enabled by these innovations, including multi model AI patterns that combine the strengths of large language models with transactional intelligence. Learn how these approaches help IBM Z clients modernize applications, enhance decision making, and drive smarter, faster outcomes—securely and at scale.

The z Exchange Presents: IPCS for Beginners with Ed Jaffe

Ed Jaffe will cover basic IPCS commands and MVS dump reading fundamentals that should help anyone new to SVC dump analysis get productive quickly. Imagine the look on your work colleagues' faces as you deftly navigate SVC dumps like a pro, finding basic root cause information that will help decide if you're looking at yet another example of in-house "pilot error" or if you've got a real APARable system event on your hands. And even if you must send the dump up to the next level of support, your vendors will love you for doing some of the up-front preliminary work. You're sure to become one of their all-time favorite clients.

The z Exchange Presents: Crypto Update (By the Change Bars) With Greg Boyd

IBM has a new generation of CEC, the z17 and a new level of ICSF that comes with z/OS 3.2. And of course, new manuals for all of the above. This presentation is about the new crypto capabilities of both the hardware and software, based on the change bars in the manuals.

The z Exchange Presents: From Journeys to Roadmaps: AI-Curated Learning for New Mainframers

In this session, Kelsey Colberg and Nanxi Meng from Broadcom share how the Mainframe Open Education (MOE) project is leveraging Google’s Gemini "Gems" to synthesize decades of knowledge into an AI Mentor that provides instant, vetted technical guidance. We’ll break down our 3-step framework from auditing community-sourced content to transforming z/OS training from an intimidating journey into a clear, confident roadmap. Attendees will see the AI in action and learn how they can contribute to the MOE project to help build a sustainable, open-source future for mainframe talent.

The z Exchange Presents: Reflections on 54 Years of Mainframe Security With Barry Schrager

This presentation provides an opportunity to reflect on the evolution of IBM mainframe security over the past 54 years. From its early days of just dataset password protection entered by the User at his TSO terminal or the Computer Operator, entering from the Console, to the development of foundational tools like ACF2, RACF and Top Secret, this presentation will explore milestones, challenges, and lessons that have shaped our community.    Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how mainframe security practices have matured, from basic password protections to the more robust systems of user identification, resource control, and centralized security management in use today.    Barry will also highlight enduring challenges, such as insider threats, unprotected data, and the risks of complacency. By reflecting on the past, attendees will gain new security insights leaving with a renewed appreciation for the long-standing foundations of mainframe security and the importance of continued vigilance in protecting our critical systems as we approach the era of quantum computing and the increased use of AI.
